The Australian Jewish Genealogical Society (Victoria) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to collecting, preserving and disseminating genealogical information, teaching research techniques and offering databases to people interested in researching Jewish ancestry.
The Victorian group was initially established as a branch of the New South Wales society in 1995 but became independent when incorporated in Victoria in August 1998.
Anyone interested in Jewish genealogy, regardless of religion or ethnicity, is welcome to become a member or attend meetings of the society.
We are affiliated with the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, which holds annual conferences in various countries.
We hold regular monthly meetings, which take the form of lectures, panel discussions and research workshops.
We are one of three Jewish genealogical societies across Australia:
- Australian Jewish Genealogical Society Inc. (New South Wales)
- Jewish Historical and Genealogical Society of Western Australia Inc.
- Jewish Genealogy and History Society of South Australia.
We supported the first Australian National Conference on Jewish Genealogy, held in Canberra in September 2008, and hosted the second national conference in Melbourne in March 2010.
The AJGS(Vic) welcomes donations to help support its researching indexing activities and build genealogical resources.
